Work Life Balance
Getting Work Life Balance Right
Many entrepreneurs I meet have made a conscious decision to start a business with a view to improving their work life balance – but often they find they are working more hours than they ever did before and end up stressed out and dissappointed.
So how can you strike up the perfect Work/Life balance?
Well – firstly, this will depend on your individual circumstances. For some people, work life balance is all about spending more time with family, with others it may mean more freedom to travel and so on.
Before you begin working towards your lifestyle change, you need to take a long hard look at;
- Where You Are
- Where You Want To Be
- What Needs To Be Done In-between
Mapping this out before you jump in and start your business will ensure you factor in everything you need to strike your perfect balance.
Ask yourself work life balance questions such as;
Do I want more Time With Family? Less Working Hours? Financial Freedom? The Freedom To Work More? Time For Myself? To Go Traveling? A More Minimalistic Lifestyle? To Move Abroad? More Leisure Time?
When you have answered this, you need to make sure you incorporate it with your business plan so you don’t set out to spend more time with family and end up working 18 hours a day!
If you want to achieve more time with family, then set your working hours at the very start. Maybe fit them around school hours or holidays.
If you’re looking for the opportunity to travel around the world 6 months of the year, don’t go renting a flashy office in the centre of town – what good will that be while you’re abroad?
I think you get what I mean. Make sure you’re aware of why you are doing something before you plan and set it up. Remember to factor in your Lifestyle changes when planning your work. Everyone is entitled to creating a better lifestyle for themselves, it’s just a matter of how you do it that counts.
